Investing in Our Future: The Urgency of Climate Literacy

At ecoHQ, we have watched Dr Chip Fletcher’s videos on climate science.

We’ve learned how important it is to understand the global climate problem as a whole, especially from a scientific and social point of view, if we are to devise real solutions that will make a lasting difference.

After watching the videos, we spoke to people from different backgrounds about climate change. Unfortunately, they are either ill-informed about the climate crisis or are driven by biases and polarising views (caused by various political groups spreading their propaganda).

They opine that:

1. The climate crisis is not real.

2. No matter what we try to control, the earth will reset itself, and we can do nothing about it.

3. Even if we do our bit to address the climate crisis, our small contributions do not matter because it is too big a problem to address.

4. Tangible change can only happen if world governments and prominent and influential parties work towards solutions, and it is not the citizens’ problem to solve.

Climate education must be taught in schools and colleges, but people of all ages need to learn about it to survive on this planet.

Earth is reaching its tipping point, and no credible pathways exist to stop warming at 1.5 C.

The next decade will define our position. That’s why, starting right now, we need to invest in our planet by investing in climate literacy.

Climate Literacy is our united hope.
